Imagination plays an important role in hypnosis therefore children already have a head start. |
Extended information about hypnosis for children.
Parents sometimes inquire about bringing their children to hypnosis, in fact hypnosis is becoming so well recognised these days that even on occasion a young teenager will iniate the idea by asking their parents if they can go for a hypnotherapy session. Hypnotherapy for children is very similar to hypnotherapy for adults therefore the information on the other pages of the site can be read with children or adults in mind.
Of course parents have specific questions about hypnosis for children and so I've decided to treat the rest of this page as a brief frequently asked questions page for hypnosis for children.
Can children be hypnotised?
Yes. Children and teenagers respond very well to hypnosis. Imagination plays a large role in hypnosis and therefore children are right at home with the hypnotic state.
Can children benefit from hypnotherapy?
Yes. Children respond very well to hypnotherapy and older teenagers respond in similar fashion to adults so you can expect good results from hypnotherapy with children and teenagers just as you would with yourself.
Is hypnosis safe for children?
Yes. It is just as safe and natural for children as it is for adults.
What is the youngest a child can be hypnotised?
It is possible to hypnotise children from about four years up however in terms of achieving a therapeutic outcome six years old is age more realistic age with which to work.
Can I be present while my child is hypnotised?
Of course you can and with young children you will be required to be present for the entire session. Sometimes for teenagers it is more practical to speak one to one with the young adult as the hypnotherapy session can sometimes provide an opportunity for them to discuss matters that they might not be comfortable yet to discuss with mum and dad. Hypnosis can always be done with a parent in the room if that is the preference.
The key to the success of any hypnosis or hypnotherapy is the co-operation of the person having the hypnosis. Forcing a child or teenager to come to hypnosis is not really going to get us off on the right foot. However it is understandable for a child or teenager to be nervous and perhaps require a little encouragement from the parent.
All of my clients, whether children, teenagers or adults get the opportunity to meet me at the beginning of the session while we discuss the issue at hand and hypnosis in general. They have the opportunity to make up there own mind as to whether hypnosis is something they want to do. If, for some reason, they decided it was not for them then the session will be terminated without charge or obligation. In my experience though, most people, once they find out a little more about how natural hypnosis is end up being pretty keen to give it a go.
