Extended information about hypnosis for stress and tension.
Stress basically results from the feeling that we are not coping with or managing the pressures that rise and accumulate in our daily lives. These pressures generally come in two forms:
- External Pressures - These are the general pressures experienced in day to day living. Examples include financial commitments, relationship pressures, work, school or any of the other things that keep us busy on a day to day basis.
- Internal Pressures - These are our internal survival strategies. They represent our emotional patterns, our belief systems and our expectations about ourselves and the world. Sometimes the cause of internal pressure is obvious and at other times we just feel this pressure inside that we don't understand.
Whether the pressure comes from outside or inside it is important to remember that the stress is in the response not in the circumstance. What that means is that it is the way we respond to pressure that creates stress or peace in our lives. Hypnotherapy is a very effective tool for sorting through emotions, reassessing strategies and developing new understadings as well as evaluating and modifying existing coping strategies.
Hypnosis offers relief from stress in a few ways. The first is the simplest of all. When you book a hypnotherapy session you are actually setting aside an hour and a half to sit in a comfortable chair and be guided into a relaxing frame of mind. Many people are surprised and delighted at just how relaxed they can become in hypnosis. This in itself is sometimes enough to provide immediate relief. Some people literally just need to take a short break in order to step back and look at things from a new and refreshed frame of mind.
If the stress is the result of more complex issues then there ar a number of approaches we can take:
- Hypnosis can be used to assess and improve understanding of complex circumstances.
- Unrecognised yet influencial emotions and beliefs can be recognised and addressed.
- New coping strategies can be learnt and adopted.
- Personal inner resources and strengths can be accessed and activated.
Hypnotherapy offers the opportunity to consider things from a new perspective, to re-engage with your own strengths and to make behavioural changes that support you in meeting the challenges of your day to day life.
