There are four factors that contribute to the maintanance of a person's bodyshape and size. They are:

  • The type of food you eat
  • The amount of food you eat
  • The amount that you move (exercise)
  • The degree of motivation and focus that you can maintain.

Hypnosis plays its role when it comes to motivation and focus.

If you think about it you are, at the moment, the perfect weight and size in relation to how much you eat and how much you move. You have probably managed to maintain a certain weight for a certain period of time. If you change just one of these factors ie. eat a bit less, move a bit more or change the quality of the food you eat then you will lose weight automatically.

Hypnosis can be very effective in helping you to adjust the amount of food you eat, that is to feel satisfied with smaller portion sizes and/or to help with motivation in relation to exercise. Sometimes the cause of excess weight is simply a case of bad habits in terms of eating poor quality and non-nutritious snacks. Hypnosis can be very effective in changing this type of habitual behaviour.

Most of the people I see for assistance with weight management are people over the age of 30 who have come to realise that maintaining a healthy body is really a lifestyle choice. They realise that there is no "magic pill" that sheds the pounds for them but rather, in order to maintain a healthy body they need to make a certain commitment to themselves to make their own health and wellbeing a priority in their day to day life.

When it comes to weight management, hypnosis works best for the person who is determined to make the next phase of their life as good as, or even better, than the last. Most people come to me with a specific change that they would like to make. Some say "I want to use my treadmill more regularly" or "I want to stop snacking on chocolate and buscuits" or perhaps "I want to enjoy vegetables more." These are really practical approaches that often respond well to hypnosis.

As usual my goal is to keep the process as simple as possible. I believe that the simpler the change the more likely it is to become a permanent part of your behaviour. Often the way that we eat and drink is interwoven into all aspects of our social, work and family life. I therefore look for those changes we can work on together that will fit in to your existing lifestyle while still helping you to achieve your weight, bodyshape and health goals. Often a small change in the right direction is enough to get the ball rolling.
